Palms Casino Ditches Vegas Strip Trends, Goes 3:2 Across All Blackjack Tables

Palms Casino Resort, an off-Strip property in Las Vegas, has introduced a player-friendly change to its blackjack tables, contrary to the popular trends. The change was enacted on Valentine’s Day and is in line with the property’s commitment to delivering best-in-class experiences to its players.

Palms Refused to Follow the Strip Trends

According to the announcement, Palms Casino is now paying 3:2 on all blackjack tables. This change, which went into effect on February 14, applies to all blackjack tables on the main casino floor, as well as on those in the high-limit areas.

Before this change was applied, Palms blackjack tables would vary in payout. Some paid out 3:2 but many did 6:5 instead.

For context, 3:2 games provide players with $3 for every $2 wager when they get a blackjack combination (two cards totaling 21). On the other hand, at 6:5 tables, as one might imagine, players win $6 for every $5 player who has wagered. This difference is especially noticeable in high-limit games.

The latter option is more favorable to casino operators and has become increasingly common across Las Vegas. However, the recent change shows that Palms Casino is prepared to go against the grain.

In addition to highlighting Palms’ client-friendly business model, this new change will homogenize Palms’ blackjack tables, allowing customers to wager with confidence.

To top it all off, Palms said that it will not increase its table game minimums despite the change. In addition to tables for high-rollers, the casino offers $5 blackjack for those who prefer more casual experiences.

This Strategy Could Pay Off

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Scott Hager, Palms’ vice president of gaming, said that the switch to 3:2 tables is an expression of Palms’ commitment to delivering “the best gaming experience” to its guests and loyal local players.

Enhancing and expanding our blackjack offerings reflects our dedication to providing top-tier table games and ensuring an exceptional experience for everyone who walks through our doors.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that John Mehaffey, co-owner of VegasAdvantage.com, believes that customer-friendly changes might be more beneficial in the long run. The player advocate clarified that lower payouts might alienate players while better ones can attract more customers and, in turn, end up generating better profits for operators.

Speaking of Palms Casino Resort, last year, the property scooped up the Strat’s former general manager, Stephen Thayer, as its new general manager.
